Playing the Girl Next Door
In this guide, I attempt to help you play the Girl Next Door, a stereotype well-known to those familiar with recent sit-coms.
We all know what who the girl next door is: she’s the nice, helpful, friendly girl whose attractiveness ranges from cute and adorable to smoking hot. She’s sweet, amazing, and also unattainable. She’s seems so pure that guys don’t even dare hit on her, for fear of spoiling her image. (Paraphrasing this source, at least.)
The girl next door is used to indicate what is seen as average and wholesome femininity. She is neither butch nor overtly feminine and not promiscuous but might be a foil to one who is like the down town girl in the Town Girls. Typically pretty in an accessible way. But wait, you wonder, she sounds a bit like a Mary Sue, now, doesn’t she? She can be played as such, but it’s up to you to add flaws to her. Here are a few examples that would still fit with the above qualities:
The Girl Next Door can be explored in so many ways; I’m sure anyone attempting this character can build them up to have a strong, rounded personality.
I hope this helped!
